ADOBE WORLD HEADQUARTERS, SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA
Together with Adobe and NOVA Partners, ARC TEC led a multi-disciplined team in the planning, design, permitting and construction of the first major fuel cell installation project in downtown San Jose. In all, Adobe installed 12 Bloom Energy ES-5000 fuel cell units, each capable of producing 100kw of power from renewable bio-methane gas, for a total of 1,200kw of 24/7 on-site power generation. The fuel cells are powered by 100% renewable fuel; as they emit only clean CO2, they are also 100% carbon-neutral, thus promoting Adobe’s commitment to conserving natural resources and minimizing its impact on the environment.
The fuel cells are located in two separate fuel cell “farms,” both located on the exiting fifth floor parking deck. ARC TEC worked closely with the City of San Jose Planning and Building Departments to locate the fuel cell farms in a manner that allows Adobe to showcase this new technology, but also to minimize its visual impact on the surrounding community. This project represents the first phase of the planned installation of additional next-generation fuel cells, which Adobe hopes will lead to the eventual on-site generation of 100% of its energy needs, all from energy sources that are 100% renewable and 100% carbon-neutral.
